Fragrance Concentrations Explained
Learn what common concentration labels can tell you—and what they cannot.
Common labels
Eau de cologne, eau de toilette, eau de parfum and parfum generally indicate increasing aromatic concentration. Exact percentages vary by brand, so the label is a useful guide rather than a universal formula.
Concentration is not the whole story
Ingredients, composition, climate and skin can all affect how a fragrance projects and lasts. A higher concentration does not automatically mean a scent will be preferable for every person or setting.
Choose by experience
Consider how close or noticeable you want a fragrance to feel, when you plan to wear it and whether you enjoy its development over time. Sample sizes can support a more informed decision.
